How do I start over?

On rare occasions, it can be necessary to get rid of your 1Password data and start from scratch.

What happens when I start over?

Starting over will delete all your vaults, backups and preferences. There’s no way to recover this data, so please be careful! Before starting over, use the Search feature at the top of the page to see if there’s an existing solution to the problem you’re facing. We also invite you to seek help on our discussion forum.

Will starting over also remove my sync data?

Any data you have synced to Dropbox or iCloud will be kept safe (unless you specifically choose to delete it).

How do I start over?

Just follow the steps below for your version of 1Password:

1. (Optional) Delete data from iCloud.

If you sync with iCloud, you may wish to remove your 1Password data in the cloud and start with a clean slate.

2. Remove 1Password from your device.

Tap and hold on any app icon until all of your apps start to wiggle. Then tap on the “X” in the upper left corner of the 1Password icon.

3. Restart your iOS device.

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button at the top of your device until the red slider appears, then drag the slider over to the right to turn it off. After your device is completely turned off, hold down the Sleep/Wake button again until the Apple logo appears.

4. Reinstall 1Password from the App Store.

If you cannot find 1Password on the App Store, check in the Purchased section. Once you’ve downloaded 1Password, open the app and you’ll start with a clean slate. We’ve got you covered if you need help remembering how to set it up.
