How do I start over?

On rare occasions, it can be necessary to get rid of your 1Password data and start from scratch.

What happens when I start over?

Starting over will delete all your vaults, backups and preferences. There’s no way to recover this data, so please be careful! Before starting over, use the Search feature at the top of the page to see if there’s an existing solution to the problem you’re facing. We also invite you to seek help on our discussion forum.

Will starting over also remove my sync data?

Any data you have synced to Dropbox or iCloud will be kept safe (unless you specifically choose to delete it).

How do I start over?

Just follow the steps below for your version of 1Password:

You can start over with 1Password 4 for Android by deleting locally stored 1Password data and re-launching the app. To do this:

  1. Open and unlock 1Password.
  2. Perform a sync by tapping the Sync icon in the Action Bar. If you are unable to sync, manually note down any changes that have not yet been synced.
  3. Quit 1Password.
  4. Open the Settings app and tap Apps > 1Password
  5. Tap Clear data.

This will delete only the data that 1Password stores internally in the app. If you are syncing with a local folder, this process will not delete the sync store, nor will it affect any data you have stored in Dropbox.

Restart the app.

The next time you open 1Password, it will be as if for the first time.
